so you remember those bags I painted and dip dyed?
I sold all but one, and they seemed quite popular, and also there were some people asking about making shirts with a similiar print.

sooo I got the chance to use a friend's screenprinting set and decided to print some shirts :) and yes, they will also be dip dyed to get the water effect!

Last week I worked on some sketches and also came up with the final print.

I liked the first sketches but then decided I need to draw a more close up version because otherwise the print will be kind of small,

so I made this one

finished the line work in Photoshop, I wanted to keep it nice and simple

and I also made these to let you have a first glimpse of what the finished shirt will look like

there are still some things to be done, I need to decide on how many shirts I will print and which colours and so on.

jeans refashion

A few weeks ago my mom gave me an old pair of her jeans, asking if I can make up something new or reuse it. I didn't know what to do with it so I laid it aside.

Last week I finally had the idea:

It was very wide so I at first made a skinny jeans out of it, which isn't that much sorcery. Just sew the legs thighter.

The jeans had a light beige colour (sorry no "before" photo, but colour chart below!), so I could have dyed it in any colour.

I actually wanted to dye it a bordeaux red, but then went for a dark pink dye, as you can see below.

Turns out I should have weighed the jeans fabric more carefully before dying.

I then had a little too much fabric and too less colour, so the result was a washed out Magenta.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad about the result :)

Only one thing botherd me...

During the dying phase, which takes about an hour, you have to turn the fabric several times. As I did, but there were still some spots where the fabric didn't take on the dye.

I didn't think that looked bad either, I just wanted it to be a little bit more symmetrical, because it only happened on one leg.

So I got some bleach and a spray bottle and this is the final result:

Tips for dying and bleaching:

- Always use rubber gloves, you don't want to have spots on your skin, and the bleach is corrosive!

- Also get a mouthpiece if you're sensitive

- Make sure to wash out all the colour or bleach carefully!

- Machine wash the fabric afterwards (and here also a lot of colour will still wash out!)

- For dying: get a big metal or plastic bucket and a stick to stir it from time to time

- For bleaching: do it outside and grab a water tube or do it in the bath tub!

I finally finished my hoodie!
After, I guess, two weeks of back and forth and thinking about which buttons I should use/buy I decided for some I already had at home. I just didn't choose them in the first place because I thought they were too tiny. Turns out they're just fine. Also: who thought buttons would be that expensive? If I had to buy new ones they would have cost about 1,50 € each (!), and I needed 7 buttons...

Well, I'm really satisfied with the finished hoodie. There are still some mistakes but I like it :)
I made it with those really wide sleeves because it's my favourite shirt/hoodie pattern. It's really comfy to wear and suits me well I guess. Also it's easy to sew because you'll have only two parts to sew together and not attach sleeves.
Plus I of course added a button border and a hood.

The fabric is really comfy, also on the inside it is lined with a very soft layer. So it's perfect for those cold days, but you can also wear it as a summer jacket!

I plan to open up an Etsy/Dawanda shop, but I don't want to open it and just have two articles or so...so I finally got to sew some things, after weeks of back and forth what I could sew...
I made a cardigan, but the buttons are still missing (who thought buttons would be so expensive, huh...), and a black shirt with a wide turtle neck. I still need to take photos, guess I'll do that when I finally finished the cardigan.
And I'm planning to do some shirts and another batch of bags! But this time screenprinted~ we will see...

I also made some Peter Pan Collars! And I'm so proud of them, and they're for sale! :)

There are 3 different ones, and you can also flip them over, so they're wearable on both sides. The size is also adjustable.

some night some weeks ago I couldn't sleep. So I switched on gotv (which is actually music television where they still play music!).
So I was reading when I heard some familiar lyrics but sung by someone else.
I wrote down the singer's name and track, but lost the note.
A few days ago I found it again, which made Birdy my new obsession.

The song I heard that night was "Shelter" (Original by The XX)
And I also fell madly in love with "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver, which I think is absolutely brilliant in its original, too.

I'm infected.

Infected with a massive Doctor Who fandom virus.

Also I guess I strain everybody's nerves at the moment with my number one topic The Doctor! :D
I rushed trough all 6 seasons in only one month and an additional week. And I rewatched 4 and a half seasons with my boyfriend.

So at the moment I'm in an ongoing circle of super-fandom! harrharr!

This could also be seen as a little warning because I guess I'll post some more Doctor Who related stuff.

(not only though... I finally started sewing again, so there will be a small tutorial in a few days yay!)

I'm not much of a merchandising person. Means: I wouldn't buy like tons of shirts or mugs or pens just because it says Doctor Who on it.

But I found some pretty nice things I would love to own!

I love these minimalistic posters by Etsy seller ModernStylographer

there's a poster for almost every episode and it's really hard to choose which one's the best.

I liked these two very much. "The Eleventh Hour" was a wonderful and brilliant introduction to the 5th season. (I adore Amy!).

And "Vincent And The Doctor" is one of my favourite episodes of all (besides "Blink")

These posters sell for around 13€ each. I need more space for posters in my room!

And if I had 250€ saved (which I actually have -haha ..cough- but I don't want to spend that much money...) I'd totally had bought this bag by Etsy seller LIMOchi, but it's already sold

Next (and last for now) I want a cupboard like this! please please please! for books!

(only needs to be bigger on the inside like the real Tardis...because shame on me I just bought another book)

This year I'm not very excited about New Years...
Most of my friends are with their families or on vacation. I don't really want to go dancing, mostly because of the prices and all the drunk idiot strangers you don't want to spend New Years with...

I just want to spend a nice quiet evening. But I feel on New Years everyone has to do something or you'll be stamped as a bore....

I did it again.

I bought some more books. (get me a support group!)

I finally purchased "1Q84" by Haruki Murakami.

English version, 16€, Hardcover and all three books in one seemed like a good deal!

I also bought "Super Sad True Love Story" by Gary Shteyngart. Actually the cover got me a few weeks ago (yes I often buy books if the cover suits my taste). Nevertheless I put it aside and yesterday when I was watching an end-of-the-year marathon of a german show called "Der Marker" with my boyfriend, there was a contribution about this book and the author was reading some lines from it. I liked it from the beginning!

I'm very curious about both books but I still didn't finish "Skippy Dies" by Paul Murray and "Across the universe" by Beth Revis which I'm halfway trough and totally digging!

I also pre-confirmed the next part called "A million suns" on Amazon!

And for Christmas my boyfriend got me "Der Geschmack von Chlor" by Bastien Vives, which was the one graphic novel I still wanted to have! <3

P.S.: I also finished that job at the bookstore, which is kind of sad because I had some really nice colleagues, but also good because it was reaaally stressfull...

But I already got a buttload of money from tips! and the wage will be on my bank account in a few days as well!

I sold another two bags (yay), and I got money from my parents and aunt for Christmas.

So I can buy looooots of books....lots lots lots! (And the Doctor Who DVDs!)

latest events

I've finally got two days of work off, so this is a small update what happened lately :)

5 days of work are yet to come. I also have to work on the 24th, which is not that bad because I'm staying at home anyway, and the shift will end at 2 pm.

I figured working at a bookstore is very dangerous for my wallet. (because of the staff dicsount....)

I bought some books for my parents as christmas presents, but I also got myself some graphic novels

I started with "Asterios Polyp" last night and I really had to keep myself from reading it straight through.

And I still want to buy "Der Geschmack von Chlor".

Also some bad news, I didn't take any pictures at the Kafe Kunst Fest, but it was really worth it! I sold some bags, and the pompon cape! Which is why I could buy the books above <3

And there was another Sale over at a friend's studio on friday, which I couldn't attend because of work, but I sold another two bags. YAY

Yesterday morning I got to meet some friends at a vegan brunch, which was super yummy! and I also got my first christmas present a little early but I loooove it <3

and it toally fits my blog :D

Also I managed to decorate a little for Christmas.

My dad and I decided that we won't have a Christmas Tree this year (even if one of the neighbours could get us one...)

so I put some spruce and fir branches on my wall and hang some owlies and bows on them. The owly template can be found here

As I already said. I'm working on a batch of 10 bags right now for Kafe Kunst Fest in December.

I got 5 of them fully finished.

All bags are handpainted, then dip dyed and embroidered.

They all got an "under the sea" theme :)

so here's a small preview of two of them.

unfortunately the lighting doesn't bring out the dip dye ombre effect...

the price will be around 10-15€ I guess. I'm
not sure yet.

pumpkin frozen yogurt

Yesterday I grabbed the last pumpkin at the supermarket and I made some delicious pumpkin pasta for about 10 people because I can never estimate how many noodles I need.

Nevertheless I had about half of the pumpkin left, and since I'm the only one in this household who likes pumpkin, I couldn't make a pie. ok I could, but I couldn't eat it all by myself. So instead I made myself some frozen yogurt!

Here's the recipe:

Pumpkin Frozen Yogurt

makes 2 servings

70g pumpkin purée

500g low fat yogurt

70g sugar

2 egg whites

cinnamon

ginger

vanilla flavouring

Prepare:

First you need to make the pumpkin purée. You could also use the canned one but I couldn't find it.

Heat up some water in a pan and cook the pumpkin about 30 minutes on low heat.

Then pour off the water and mash the pumpkin.

Let the purée cool down a bit.

Also you need to sift the yogurt so it gets a kind of cream cheese consistency. Put a kitchen towel in a sieve and onto a bowl. Then put the yogurt in and some plastic wrap upon it. Let it rest for around 6 hours!

When the preparing is done you can mix the yogurt (wich will be only around 300g left) with sugar. Mix it for a few minutes (4-5) so it gets all creamy.

Then stir in a bit of cinnamon and ginger spice, as well as some vanilla flavouring.

Beat the egg whites until stiff and gently fold into the yogurt.

At the end mix in the pumpkin purée.

Then you have to freeze it for about 3-4 hours until it reaches the consistency you wish.

Take it out every hour and stir it.

yesterday I went to buy some new fabric.

Usually fabric shops tend to be super expensive but I went to a wholesale plant where you can buy at purchase cost.
So I saved a whole lot of money and got myself a nice striped sweatshirt fabric.
Also I found this red Jersey on a pile of remains, which means it couldn't be cut smaller anymore, but I got it for a good price of 7€. Remains are paid 5€ per kilogram.
And they gave me some small fabric remains for free :)

ermergency plan

I'm always late with my projects. I can't manage to keep my schedule. But when working with others I really try. Nevertheless this time all my effort didn't mean anything because now my emergency plan becomes effective.

As I told you I'll be taking part in Kafe Kunst Fest on December 11th. So a friend of mine had everything prepared..bags and shirts...and they practically just needed to be sent to me to be printed and embroiderd.

But life doesn't play like you want to, and due to a fire everything burned or is useless now.

So luckily a few weeks ago I purchased some plain cotton bags, which gives me the opportunity to still have something to sell.

I'm glad that the whole project doesn't fall trough all in all...but I'm also very sorry for my friend who might not even come....which is understandable.

So there are ten bags waiting to be handprinted, dyed and embroidered.

Kafe Kunst Fest

Every year, usually one or two weeks bevor Christmas, the Kafe Kunst Fest takes place at the Kafe Kult in Munich.

This year it will take place on December 11th, only for one day.

There will be a Craft Market, with lots of d.i.y. stuff you can buy (like screenprints, selfmade bags/plushies/clothes and so on) but also an exhibition of photos, comics, illustration, zines, and so on.

As a visitor you can participate in workshops like how to build own instruments out of tin cans and other unusual stuff. Also there will be a station where you can print and sew something.

I've kind of grown used to the Kafe Kunst Fest since this will be my fourth time in participating. And even though this year it will be super stressful for me to take part, I cannot imagine not doing so :)

For four years now a friend of mine and I have our own little project called "TEAM WELTRETTER". We've been sewing own clothes and bags, and some of them are handprinted afterwards as well.

I advise you to come and visit us if you can spare some time, since it's totally worth it!

So if you're in or around Munich on December 11th save the date!

NO SOUP FOR YOU*

There are days when I don't know what I want to eat. And when I finally decide what I would like to have the shops are already closed.
so that's when I start to cook up something from scratch.

Yesterday witchcraft and wizardry came together and I made this super yummy soup, which is kind of Asian, but I can't tell which kind because I just threw some stuff in and was lucky to have a good result :)

so here's the recipe: (please note: it seems like a lot of stuff to buy but most of those things either belong to my usual inventory or are cheap to get)

Vegan Super Yummy Non-Labeled Asian Soup

Ingredients:

leek, finely chopped

pickeled bell pepper

garlic, pressed or finely chopped

bamboo shoots

mie noodles (or any other Asian soup noodles)

smoked tofu

vegetable stock

soy sauce

dried ginger

peanut butter

vegetable oil

and some salt and pepper (I used cayenne)

First heat up some vegetable oil in a saucepan. Stir-fry the garlic (just a bit..don't let it brown!), then add the leek, bell pepper, diced smoked tofu and a bit of soy sauce. Cook for only a few minutes then add the vegetable stock (about 700 ml). Let it cook for about 10 minutes on mid heat.

Next you add the bamboo shoots and noodles. It needs to cook for about another 5 minutes until the noodles are done.

Now add the spices as ginger, salt and pepper. And also stir in about half a tablespoon of peanut butter. This may sound a bit weird but it goes very well with the flavours.

so it happens that I started reading lots of books at once during the last few months and they're piling up next to my bed.

still I can't stop buying more and more. Luckily I got some money for my birthday. What did I do with it? buy new books!

I finally got myself a copy of "Blankets" by Craig Thompson , which I already read but since I also got "Habibi" a few weeks ago I wanted to complete the collection of big fast graphic novels!

I just love Craig Thompson's style of illustrating and it took me some time to read through "Habibi" because there were some pages I had to stare on for minutes before I could turn to the next.

Nevertheless my list of books I urgently want to read keeps on increasing ...
